How to create your personal sanctuary
Although most of the day may be filled with chaos, finding a peaceful sanctuary at home can be an easy way to restore serenity.
Sherry Chayat Roshi, abbot of the Zen Center in Syracuse [New York, USA], said creating a sanctuary in the home does not require one to invest a lot of money, join groups, buy products or commit an enormous amount of time.
“We’re very much all about having a sanctuary in the home,” she said. “Have a sacred space that you create.”
1) That sacred space can be a corner of your bedroom, a closet that isn’t cluttered or a small room that isn’t used. Clear out the space as best you can. Put a cushion or a straight-back chair in the space—use something that forces you to sit up straight, not a lounge chair, she said.
