Horse Play: Area woman’s masks reveal animal’s point of view
Get in touch with your inner horse. That’s what Melissa Shandley tries to do with her line of anatomically correct horse masks. “It’s an easy way to have a low-maintenance relationship with a horse, and actually imagine being a horse by shifting into horse vision,” Shandley said. “It is designed to be an interactive experience, a tool, to have a deeper experience.” Her Equine Spirit Masks are constructed from Italian art paper in colors not found on horses and fastened with Velcro. Tiny interior mirrors allow humans to wear the masks and move around without bumping into walls. Shandley sells kits with easy-to-assemble masks in packs of five for $140 or in workshop setting for about $30 a head. Finished, decorated masks start at $40. “My intrigue was being put in the animal’s place to feel what they’re feeling and going through,” Lynda Grove said after a recent workshop. Read Article
